She Gained 2,000 Insight Timer Followers In One Week—And Still Had No Way to Reach Them
How five existing tracks can become an email course that turns listeners into subscribers.

An Insight Timer teacher I worked with had gained a couple of thousand followers in one week after taking part in one of the platform’s free challenges.
That’s huge.
Insight Timer was already her main source of income. She was hosting live sessions, had a retreat nearly booked, and had spent years building her work as a guide.
Then we looked at what happened when someone wanted to go deeper.
They listened to one of her tracks, visited her Insight Timer profile, clicked through to her website—and the website sent them straight back to Insight Timer.
As she put it during our conversation, she was “literally bouncing them straight back again.”
So despite the growing follower count, there was no clear way to bring some of those people onto her email list. If she wanted to tell them about another retreat six months later, she still had to depend on Insight Timer putting her work in front of them again.
That’s a difficult way to build a meditation business.
Followers Are Not the Same as an Audience You Can Reach
Insight Timer is a godsend for meditation teachers to get discovered.
Someone opens the app because they cannot sleep, feel anxious, or need to quiet their mind and still their body. They search, browse, or see a recommendation. Your voice reaches them at the right moment, and they decide to follow you.
The problem comes when your follower count starts to feel like an audience you can contact.
It isn’t.
Those people still live inside Insight Timer. You can’t email them when you announce a retreat. You can’t send them a new teaching when it connects to something they are struggling with. You have to wait for the platform to bring the two of you together again.
That may be enough when your income comes entirely from tracks, courses, and donations inside the app.
It becomes limiting when you also want to fill retreats, work with coaching clients, or launch your own courses and programs.
Those kinds of high-trust offers usually happen later—after someone has listened to your work, spent more time with your worldview, and gradually decided they want a deeper experience. That means you need a way to stay connected during that period.
So the better business question for an Insight Timer teacher is not just:
How do I reach more people?
It’s also:
How do I move some of the interest I already have onto my email list?
Build a Free 5-Day Email Course From Your Existing Body of Work
When I suggested this to the teacher I spoke with, she initially assumed she’d need to record a new audio or video course.
But she already had endless material.
Her main modality was yoga nidra, and she’d been creating meditations and courses on Insight Timer for years. So she could easily choose five tracks around one common struggle and organize them into a short email course.
Here is the process I suggested she use:
1. Start with the offer you want to sell later.
Choose one offer: a retreat, coaching program, course, or group session.
The free course should offer a small taste of the kind of work someone will experience inside that offer.
A teacher who wants to fill a yoga nidra retreat might build the course around preparing the body for deeper rest.
2. Choose one problem the course will help with.
Keep the promise small enough to experience a mini shift in five days.
You’re giving someone a useful starting point: they should finish the course with a practice they can use—or a new way of seeing the problem they came in with.
3. Pull five pieces from your existing library.
Review the meditations, talks, and course lessons you have already published.
Choose five that create a small journey for someone, guiding them through the problem in an intentional order, so each piece becomes one day of the course.
4. Write a short email around each lesson.
Here’s the general format I use for my email courses:
Introduces the day’s theme.
Briefly explore and acknowledge the reader’s current struggle or predicament.
Offer a fresh insight or a perspective shift on the struggle.
End with one simple, actionable step that offers immediate relief: a tiny practice, tool, exercise, journaling prompt, or reflection.
If you’re repurposing work you’ve already published, you don’t need to recreate the teaching or practice in each email. Just assemble and restructure what already exists.
5. Give Insight Timer listeners a clear invitation.
Put the link to the free course in your Insight Timer profile.
At the end of a live session, tell listeners they can visit your profile and check out the link if they need further support. This gives them a clear next step deeper into your work.
The benefit of this?
Someone receives five days of your teaching and becomes part of your world—more specifically, your email list. So when you later announce a retreat or coaching program, you have potential buyers who are already resonating with you and what you offer.

Here’s a quick template to outline a free email course before writing any of the emails.
Fill out this first:
The future offer: What might the reader eventually buy from you?
The person: Who is this course designed to help?
The immediate struggle: What are they experiencing right now?
The five-day promise: What will they understand, practice, or begin doing by the end?
Day 1: Recognize the problem.
What do they need to notice about their current experience?
Day 2: Understand what is happening.
What insight will help their struggle make more sense?
Day 3: Try the core practice.
Which existing practice or teaching gives them a direct experience of your work?
Day 4: Work with the common obstacle.
What usually makes this practice difficult to continue?
Day 5: Continue the practice.
What can they do next, and how can they stay connected to your work?
The Insight Timer Invitation
At the end of a track or live session on Insight Timer, you can say:
“If you’re struggling with [specific problem], check out the link in my Insight Timer profile. I created a free resource that can help you [specific outcome].”
That’s a gentle way to “promote” your free course that complies with Insight Timer’s external promotion policy.
